How did you first get into coaching? What has been the driver that has kept you in coaching?
I had just ended playing professionally and had always loved being a part of a team. My old high school coach reached out and needed some help for the upcoming season. Before I knew it, I was on staff and fell in love with it. I love the moments when one of your players suddenly "gets it" and his behavior changes for the better.

Who has been your biggest influence in your coaching career? Why?
David Hixon - former coach at Amherst College. I was fortunate enough to play for Coach Hixon for four years and to work for him for another three. He is incredible, has extremely high emotional intelligence and knows what button to push and when at all times. I learned so much from him every day I was fortunate enough to play and work for him.

What is your favorite team meal?
I love a nice Chicken Parm pre-game meal the night before a big game. The energy is always exciting and hopeful. A close runner-up is a big team meal after a game whether we win or lose. Always nice to be able to walk around and speak about other subjects besides basketball!

What has been your greatest lesson learned in coaching so far?
There is so much talent out there but only one champion. The difference is not talent, it is all about character and sacrifice. The best teams have players who are consistent and sacrifice their own stats for the good of the team. It is special to be around groups like that - enjoy those moments!

What has been your most memorable win?
Winning the Division 3 National Championship in Atlanta in 2013 with Amherst College.

Tell us a recent book/podcast/movie that has left you inspired as a coach.
I really enjoyed "Extreme Ownership" by Jocko Willink.

Fun Fact: Tell us something about yourself that people would be surprised to know about you.
Every pop culture subject considered nerdy I love - Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Star Wars - you name it, I am in and probably know a little too much about it.

As a member, what has been the most rewarding aspect/ favorite memory of Rising Coaches for you?
