David Abbott Jr. has worked his way through coaching from volunteer coaching at Rivet Middle School, to Charlestown High and Indiana University Southeast. He is now the Assistant Women's Video Coordinator at the University of Louisville.

How did you first get into coaching? What has been the driver that has kept you in coaching?
I started volunteer coaching middle school basketball while in college and found my passion for the game and young athletes. The drive behind coaching has been the way I have "worked my way up" from a volunteer to being at the collegiate level. Hard work can take you far and has driven me.
Who has been your biggest influence in your coaching career? Why?
I have multiple people who has had an influence on me, the most recent being Coach Robin Farris.
What are new ways to impact the coaching industry?
The new uses of technology. Mental health methods for athletes are being more emphasized
What has been your greatest lesson learned in coaching so far?
Not everything is going to go as planned. Roll with the punches and trust your experiences both good and bad.

I am an elected official in my hometown. I serve the community on the Town Board.
As a member, what has been the most rewarding aspect/ favorite memory of Rising Coaches for you?
Meeting like minded individuals in the basketball profession.
